Take time for yourself
As a massage therapist I get a lot of clients who tell me that they never have time for themselves. Or that taking time for themselves would be selfish. Hearing this made me realize that we need to learn how to have quality time with ourselves.
Many of us have been on an airplane and heard the flight attendant talk about what to do in case of an emergency. One of these is about the oxygen mask. The flight attendant says we are to put the oxygen mask on ourselves first and then those who can’t. Our nature makes us want to help someone who is struggling before we help ourselves. However, if we don’t get the mask on ourselves first, we run the risk of struggling and not really helping others.
In other words, put the oxygen mask on yourself first, then help the other person who is struggling. You will be able to help more efficiently and not feel exhausted.
One way this can be achieved is to schedule at least 10min a day on your calendar on your phone. What are you to do with these 10min? Easy, anything you want as long as it is edifying to you and it is something you want to do. Also remember that this time is for you. It is not for family members, friends, work, or idiots. This time is time for you.
Some ideas you can use: throw a soft ball against the wall, go for walk, yoga, meditate, watch silly video, doodle, play game on phone, etc… There are many more ideas I am sure you can think of. So try taking 10min everyday for yourself, you might find that your day goes smoother and you feel less stressed.
